Pricing
Our standard pricing for transfers is $35/hour with a $35 minimum. Sometimes with old media there can be gaps in play and we want to ensure that all available audio is transferred properly— we don’t assume a pause or gap means there is no more transferrable audio left on a reel or casette.
1/4” and 2” reels have an additional up-front processing cost— $75 per 2” reel and $75 per batch of 1/4” reels (we can process up to three 1/4” reels at a time, before applying a second processing cost). Transferring an old reel of tape is not as simple as loading it on a machine and pressing play. We evaluate each reel and bake them (if applicable) before we attempt a transfer. We also carefully go through our tape machines and clean tape heads, demag the machine, and calibrate if applicable. Skipping these steps could result in an unsuccessful transfer, full of audio dropouts and can even damage the tapes permanently.
Depending on the condition of your tapes we can’t guarantee there won’t be audio dropouts or print-through. We can discuss 1/4” mono tape that is is particularly bad shape and will attempt a transfer but may take several tries in an attempt to get a usable pass— this additional fee will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
File Breakdown
If you have knowledge of the song titles or and track labelling information please share that with us. If you want us to break the full transfer down into discreet files but do not provide a reference track list we will simply name them Track 1, Track 2, etc.
Please indicate if you want discrete tracks or one continuous audio file for the transfer.
Final Format Options
Unless otherwise specified, we will provide your digital files both as WAV and MP3. Please indicate how you’d like to receive your transferred files.

Do you want us to clean up your recording post-transfer? We can reduce tape hiss, plosives, reduce the noise floor, and clean up clicks and pops that distract from the listenability of the final product. We are happy to discuss what you want cleaned up, and restoration editing is $45/hr.
