Expanding the Studio- New Editing Room!

We are pretty excited to have expanded our capacity over here at Acadia with a new editing room so we can process files and get them ready to mix at a much faster pace. When we only had one computer, tracking during one session took up all of our resources–sometimes there literally aren’t enough hours in the day to get files ready between sessions.

Our setup is a modest but robust rig–at its heart lies a 4 GHz Intel Core i7 iMac with a 27″ 5K retina display, 16Gb RAM and a SSD system drive and a LaCie 7200rpm Thunderbolt drive for audio files. This is paired with a Slate Raven Mti2 Multi-Touch Display, which allows hands on control of Pro Tools directly on the screen. The Raven software allows the display to sense up to 10 touch points simultaneously–which means we can reach out and adjust up to 10 ProTools faders for detailed automation writes, grab a knob on a plugin or select edit regions or write automation curves with a finger!

On the audio end of things we have a Focusrite Clarett 8preX audio interface connected via Thunderbolt, driving a pair of KRK VxT6 near-field monitors – we don’t actually “mix” in this room, but it allows us the option to edit without wearing headphones.

On this system we are running ProTools 12 Native and the full suite of plugins we use in the mix room from Slate, Waves, Celemony, Soundtoys and more. We also have Logic Pro X installed on this system for importing Logic sessions to our ProTools rigs. This system is highly portable, and when paired with our Focusrite Clarett OctoPre, we have a mobile studio capable of handling 16 analog & 4 digital inputs at once!

With this new room we have improved our efficiency and in addition to editing, we can now take on other projects such as tape transfers etc. Next time you stop by the studio, feel free to pop your head in and check out the new room!
