About the Instrument

We are extremely honored to house an 88-key 1929 Steinway Long A or “stretched A” grand piano, measuring 6’ 4 ½”.  This is truly a gorgeous instrument in both sight and in sound.  This Steinway has a full balanced rich sound with even bass frequencies that don’t overpower the recording. This piano sounds great as an instrument for solo classical or solo jazz repertoire.  It also sounds fantastic in smaller chamber or jazz trio/quartets.  We are happy to schedule time for you to get your hands on the piano before booking a session— please email studio@acadiarecording.com and we will set up some time to make sure the piano is a good fit for your needs.

History

This Steinway has only had one previous owner, and has been housed at Acadia since 2016. In 2021, the Steinway was rebuilt by George Crawford at Aardvark Piano in Massachusetts. In the rebuild George installed a new soundboard, pin block, pins, and action including Weichert Felt hammers as well as a new set of strings.

The Steinway is tuned every two months. If you want to have the piano tuned outside of the normal schedule in advance of your session, we will book our piano technician and include that tuning fee in your recording bill.
